ATTENTION PARENTS!
Childcare available again this year in the CU!

Want to catch a special music set with your partner? Need a few minutes alone in the beer garden without the kids? Take advantage of the childcare service in the Children's Universe. Back by popular demand, limited childcare will be available again this year. Reservations are made at the festival in the CU Info Booth. Available on a first come, first served basis.

kids vending & advice 

Do you make a special craft or creation? We encourage you to set up a free “vending” space in the CU. Can you offer up some good advice? Kids can earn a little change of their own in our Advice Booth (advice for all from children). 

See the information station located just inside the CU Arch on site for more information with exact schedules and times for all of the exciting events planned for the Children’s Universe at FloydFest.

2010 ART Workshops

Show your own True Colors at FloydFest!


Join visual artist, Katherine Devine & Cindy Petersen who will provide examples, suggestions and materials to help your creative soul shine during these fun, hands-on workshops! The festival umbrellas, mixed-media marionettes and dancing stick puppets created on Friday and Saturday will be featured in the Saturday Parade!

Rain or Shine Festival Umbrellas (ages 7-12)
10am-11:30am
Show off your talents by creating your own unique design to paint on an umbrella.  

Mixed-Media Marionettes (ages 10 and up)
1pm-3pm
Watch them dance, move and jump. A variety of mixed-media materials will be available as you learn how to create a marionette.

Dancing Stick Puppets (ages 7-12)

Come create a basic stick puppet and embellish it with recycled materials and see your puppet come to life!

Katherine Devine has over twenty years experience exhibiting and teaching in a variety of media to all ages. She received her undergraduate degree in art from East Carolina University, and her Master’s degree from Hollins University. She currently teaches art to adults and children at the Taubman Museum of Art, Jacksonville Center for the Arts, Roanoke County Gifted Art Program, Young Audiences of Virginia and in her private studio (1320 Grandin Road, Roanoke, VA). www.katherinedevine.com

Cindy Petersen
Cindy Petersen has worked for over fifteen years in the areas of arts, education and management. She develops and leads family arts and creativity sessions and student residencies having worked with students from Pre-K to adult level. She received her Masters of Education from Harvard University.
