2010 ART Workshops
Show your own True Colors at FloydFest!
Join visual artist, Katherine Devine & Cindy Petersen who will provide examples, suggestions and materials to help your creative soul shine during these fun, hands-on workshops! The festival umbrellas, mixed-media marionettes and dancing stick puppets created on Friday and Saturday will be featured in the Saturday Parade!
Workshop fee is $15 per participant

Friday, July 23rd
Rain or Shine Festival Umbrellas (ages 7-12)
10am-11:30am
Show off your talents by creating your own unique design to paint on an umbrella.
Mixed-Media Marionettes (ages 10 and up)
1pm-3pm
Watch them dance, move and jump. A variety of mixed-media materials will be available as you learn how to create a marionette.
Saturday, July 24th
Dancing Stick Puppets (ages 7-12)
10am-11:30am
Come create a basic stick puppet and embellish it with recycled materials and see your puppet come to life!
Mixed-Media Marionettes (ages 10 and up)
1pm-3pm

Altered Clothing (ages 7-12)
10am-11:30am
Explore stenciling, painting and using markers to create your own FloydFest fashion statement! Bring your own T-shirt or use our recycled items to decorate.

Katherine Devine
Katherine Devine has over twenty years experience exhibiting and teaching in a variety of media to all ages. She received her undergraduate degree in art from East Carolina University, and her Master’s degree from Hollins University. She currently teaches art to adults and children at the Taubman Museum of Art, Jacksonville Center for the Arts, Roanoke County Gifted Art Program, Young Audiences of Virginia and in her private studio (1320 Grandin Road, Roanoke, VA). www.katherinedevine.com
Cindy Petersen
Cindy Petersen has worked for over fifteen years in the areas of arts, education and management. She develops and leads family arts and creativity sessions and student residencies having worked with students from Pre-K to adult level. She received her Masters of Education from Harvard University.
